BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION

Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link (TMCLK) Southern Connection Marine Viaducts, Hong Kong

ROLE: Principal Engineer / Engineering Manager

RESPONSIBILITES: Development of construction methods, heavy lifting schemes, design of temporary works & erection equipment for the pierhead and inward cantilever segments of the marine viaducts.

​Westgate Tunnel Project - Steel box girder bridge over the Maribyrnong River, Melbourne​​

​

ROLE: Structural Lead Verifier(Temporary Works)

​RESPONSIBILITES: Independent verification of the design of temporary works required for the construction of steel box girder bridge over the Maribyrnong River. Independent verification of a 55m span skewed steelwork bridge with U-frames.

 

J107 Gek Poh Station, Tawas Station and 1.3km Precast Segmental Light Rail Viaduct, Singapore

ROLE: Engineering Lead for the Winning Tender

RESPONSIBILITES: Development of civil and structural schemes for the precast segmental bridge for light rail, and the two above-ground stations. ​​​​

UNDERGROUND STATIONS

M2 METRO LINE EXTENSION- Rondo DaszyÅ„skiego & Rondo ONZ STATIONS, Warsaw

ROLE: Structural Design Lead

RESPONSIBILITES:  ​Detail design of permanent and temporary structures required for the construction of two underground stations. These station structures were typically 140m long by 21m wide with a final excavation level of 20m below ground and constructed using 1.2m thick diaphragm walls and top-down construction method.

​MTRC C901 - South Island Line Admiralty Interchange Rail Station, Hong Kong​

​​

ROLE: Senior Project Engineer 

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Development of the construction sequence and structural design for the underpinning scheme beneath the live railway line. Development of hydraulic jacking scheme details supporting up to 8000 tons at each column.

Pristina Airport Terminal Building , Kosovo

ROLE: Structural Design Lead

RESPONSIBILITES:  ​Design of steelwork for the superstructure of the terminal building including design against seismic actions and development of submission packages for fabrication.

​​​​Baku Airport Renovation Project , Azerbaijan ​

ROLE: Engineering Consultant for the Main Contractor 

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Development of methods and structural designs associated with the dismantling of existing cladding, and construction of foundations for the new facade.

Three Runway System - Terminal 2 Expansion,  

Hong Kong​

ROLE: Structural Design Lead for Internal Steelwork

​RESPONSIBILITES:  The detail design of ABWF (Architectural Builders Works and Finishes) units for a range of services inside the main structure.

Deep Excavations - Roads & Railways 

Trunk Road T2 and Infrastructure Works,

Hong Kong

ROLE: Structural Design Lead

RESPONSIBILITES:  Development of the structural scheme and detail design of the 40m deep twin – circular shaped shafts with 1.5m thick diaphragm walls for launching of 14m diameter TBMs and cut-and cover section of the dual two-lane vehicular tunnel. Detail design of the launching slabs and the permanent cut and cover tunnel within the shaft.

 

​​​​Metro Tunnel Project Rail Infrastructure Alliance, Melbourne 

​​​​

ROLE:  Structural Lead Verifier / Independent Checking Engineer

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Independent analysis and design of all civil/structural elements which include RC piled retaining walls, diaphragm walls, portal structures, open through and cut and cover structures supporting the railway.

Westgate Tunnel Project - South Portal Structures, Melbourne 

​​​​​

ROLE:  Structural Lead Verifier / Independent Checking Engineer

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Independent analysis and design of permanent structures and associated temporary works for the South Portal Inbound and Outbound Structures.

Marine Construction

Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link (TMCLK) Southern Connection Marine Viaducts, Hong Kong

ROLE: Principal Engineer / Engineering Manager

RESPONSIBILITES: Development of an innovative method for constructing the marine pilecaps (up to 22m x 48m) . The method involved using precast shell modules which were cast in China, transported by barge, lifted with cranes, joined, and stressed together to form permanent formwork for the 3m-deep pilecaps. ​​​

​Central Kowloon Route - Kai Tak West , Hong Kong​

ROLE: Engineering Lead for the Winning Tender 

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Interdisciplinary coordination and design of temporary works for the tender scheme, including design of a 40m deep access shaft, design of excavation and lateral support systems for the 370m long underwater tunnel. â€‹

RESPONSIBILITES:  Development of tender and detail design of temporary and enabling works for the demolition of existing office development, followed by the design of excavation lateral support system for the two-level basement and temporary stability assessment of the 12-storey core.

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Tender and detail design of temporary and enabling works for the demolition of existing building, construction of the new basement and temporary stability of the core for the new development. ​

The OVAL - Remediation of 1879 wrought-iron structure , London

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Development of methods and design of temporary works for the underpinning and temporary support of the 42m tall lattice towers of the Grade II listed iconic structure.

Structural Strengthening Solutions, UK 

​

ROLE:  Engineering Consultant for the Specialist Contractor

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Development of application details and design of enabling works for implementation of strengthening measures for various structures using through-bolts, CFRP, steel plates, column jacketing, structural steelwork including structural appraisals and design of emergency propping. 

Residential  Construction using MMC

Affordable Housing Project for BARWA Real Estate, Doha, Qatar

ROLE: Structural Design Lead

RESPONSIBILITES: Structural design and detailing of 64 No. of four-storey apartments (1984 flats) of various types.  Designed with 0.75mm to 1.2mm light gauge steel and fabricated as panels/modules using mobile roll-formers. ​​​Design of amenities such as mosques, shopping malls, schools using a mixture of traditional hot- rolled steelwork and light gauge steel.

​Physical Rehabilitation Centre for Red Cross -Muzaffarabad, Pakistan

ROLE: Structural Design Lead  

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Structural design and detailing of the 2500m2 structure with light-gauge steel panels fabricated at site and assembled by local labour.

BRE Certification for Scottsdale Light Steel System -London, UK

​​​​

ROLE: Engineering Manager

​RESPONSIBILITES:  Development of system details to satisfy structural, fire, acoustic, thermal and durability requirements in accordance with UK Building Regulations. Preparation of reference structural design calculations for typical two storey and four storey structure and method statements for the proprietary system.

Other Projects 

50 Fenchurch Street, London, UK 

Engineering Design lead working for the demolition contractor developing the enabling works and temporary works design for the demolition of 41-43 Mincing Lane, 40-54 Fenchurch Street, the former church hall, and the Clothworkers' Hall. The scope covers design of crane bases, column removal for logistics, structural investigations, floor load assessment and load testing of the existing slabs.

​A12 Chelmsford to A120 Widening Scheme, UK 

Consultant for the bidding contractor during a twelve-month tender period. Preparation of high-level constructability studies including qualitative comparison of alternative construction methods required for the demolition and reconstruction of existing bridges & culverts which formed the part of widening. The studies were accompanied by identification of major temporary works and developing designs to a scheme level to enable contractors’ planning and pricing.

​100 New Bridge Street, London, UK 

Engineering Design Lead working for the specialist contractor, providing construction engineering support services for the contractor during the PCSA period. This major refurbishment scheme involves addition of two new floors to an existing seven storey office building, major alterations of structural slabs for the purpose of increasing useable floor space, full façade replacement on three elevations and removal of a satellite core. ​

 

8 Bishops Gate, London, UK 

Value engineering studies to increase the distance between the heighest level of core walls and the top-most level of floors during construction. By the end of the project, the 52 storey core was 20 floors ahead of the top-most level of floor slabs. This was achieved by an innovative adaptation of post-tensioning of the core walls across highly stressed six floor levels. The innovative method was an adaptation of temporary works commonly used for bridge construction.

 

N108 North-South Corridor, Road over Rail Tunnel - Marymount Lane and Pemimpin Place, Singapore

Engineering Design Lead during the eight month tender period for the design and build contract. The project involved crossing over a live metro tunnel which required developing methods to eliminate/mitigate risks related to heaving of soil and excessive D-wall movements which would have adverse impact on the live MRT tunnel structure.

​Design of Temporary and Permanent Works for Pedestrian Subway in Kai Tak Dev., Hong Kong

Engineering Design Lead for the technically challenging 12m deep 150m long subway which included a crossing of major highway. The project specifications, detail design of permanent and temporary works, were prepared by the project team and issued as Tender Documents for contractor’s bidding.

Alternative design for the temporary works of Cut and Cover Refuge Station and TBM Launching Shafts.

MTRC 902 –SIL(E) HongKong Park Ventilation Building, Hong Kong 

Development of alternative scheme design using precast concrete columns, beams and slabs from ground level to level 10 for the construction of the Ventilation Building​.

MTRC Shatin - Central Link Contract 1109 - To Kwa Wan, Sung Wong Toi Stations, Hong Kong 

Senior Project Engineer responsible for carrying out a range of engineering studies to develop excavation and lateral support solutions the tender design of two underground stations. 

 

Heat Recovery Steam Generator, Gebze, Turkey  

Project Manager responsible for the management and coordination of the design and detailing of HRSG plant.

​​​​​​​​Development of “System First” Modular Foundation System for residential housing, UK

R&D Project Engineer responsible for development of an insulated suspended steel floor system on mini piles. The product developed and tested in-house and received British Board of Agrement (BBA) approval in 2006 and received “Innovation Tech. Award” in the Building Magazine’s Sustainability Awards 2008.
